Elderly Needs Assessment Training_Ixora RC
Date: 7 September 2014; Time: 9am - 12 pm
Venue: Siglap CC
The Advisor (Dr. Maliki Osman) held a training session for students of ITE College East on how to conduct surveys with elderly citizens at Siglap CC. This is to prepare and equip them with the necessary interviewing skill sets when they go out to conduct their survey with the Siglap residents at Ixora RC. Currently, there are 1,883 (32%) senior citizens in Ixora RC (out of a total population of 5,884 residents).
The objectives of this outreach project includes; amongst other things, the following:
1) To identify the households with frail elderly
2) To understand the needs of the frail elderly in the community
3) To recommend programmes that can better meet the needs of the frail elderly
4) To introduce activities and services in Siglap CC that serve the needs of the elderly
Grassroot leaders of Siglap SCEC and Ixora RC were present to provide support and to "role play" with the students. SCEC and the respective RC members will be going out with the students when they conduct their interviews with the Ixora residents.
